GRE GUIDE

GRE (Graduate Record Examinations)
The GRE as an admission test is required from students who wish to continue their studies on the graduate level in the United States. The GRE consists of a General Test and several Subject Tests. The tests are designed to assess academic knowledge and skills relevant to graduate study. The General Test measures verbal, quantitative and analytical abilities. The Subject Tests measure the examinee's knowledge in a special field of study. The General Test and any of the Subject tests can be taken separately, too.
computer-based General Test examinees have the option either to cancel or see their scores at the end of the test. Official score reports will be mailed to examinees and to designated institutions 10 to 15 days after the test date. For paper-based testing, scores will be available approximately 6 weeks after the test administration.
GRE Test scores are reportable for 5 years, all scores earned during this time will be reported to each designated institutions.
additional information on the GRE (and a CBT sample) is available on the following site: http://www.gre.org/.

11) Getting ATKT or a YEAR – DROP can affect admission in the Universities.
12) Apart from maintaining a good GPA in the undergraduate course, the student is expected to get a very good score in the GRE ( 1300 + out of 1600) and TOEFL ( 100 + out of 120 ) for getting admit to a good university .

2) Application fees (dollar draft in the name of the university / online)
3) Statement of Purpose ( SOP )
4) 3 letters of Recommendations.
5) Attested Grade Transcripts from the university / College attended

14) Photocopy of Degree Certificates ( attested ) – indicating that the candidate has completed the course – ( if the candidate is in the final year he may not have it )
15) Curriculum Vitae

IMPORTANT:
— When a student applies to a US University, one of the important things in the application packet are the
. TRANSCRIPTS:The transcripts are mandatory for each university without which the application is
considered to be incomplete.
— The Transcripts are usually issued by the college. The Student has to make an application and submit
his/her mark sheets along with the application to the concerned authorities in the college.
— The US universities usually convert your percentage into GPA (GREATER POINT AVERAGE) from the
Transcripts.
— For almost all universities, the transcripts issued by the college are considered to be VALID.
— Some US universities require ORIGINAL UNIVERSITY STAMPED TRANSCRIPTS & DEGREES COMPLETED FOR EXAMPLE: If a candidate from Prin K.M.Kundnani College of Pharmacy has applied to LONG ISLAND
UNIVERSITY ( BROOKLYN CAMPUS or C.W.POST CAMPUS) for pursuing his/her post
graduation, then LONG ISLAND UNIVERSITY requires transcripts from MUMBAI UNIVERSITY and
not the college affiliated to the MUMBAI UNIVERSITY ( Prin K.M.Kundnani College of Pharmacy is
affiliated to the MUMBAI UNIVERSITY)
Hence, If a candidate sends transcripts from the college (in this case – Prin K.M.Kundnani College of
Pharmacy), his application WILL NOT BE TAKEN into consideration, unless he/she sends the
transcripts stamped from MUMBAI UNIVERSITY.
— In addition to the transcripts, this university also requires Degree completed – with the degree certificates
attested from Mumbai University without which the application wont be taken into consideration.

FOR EXAMPLE:
If a candidate wishes to get enroll for the FALL 2007, he/ she usually starts applying 8 months prior
i.e. in the month of December 2006 / January 2007 when the candidate is in the final year.
While applying, he/she sends only 6 semesters (SEM 1- 6) transcripts to the university since he/she
will be completing his/her graduation in the month of June / July/ August (depends whenever the result is
declared)
7th Semester and 8th Semester transcripts are usually sent after a student completes his/her graduation and
once he/she is given an admit to the US universities to the graduate international admissions office after
going to the USA.
A provisional degree certificate is given once a candidate has completed his/her graduation.
LONG ISLAND UNIVERSITY requires all 8 semesters transcripts from the Mumbai University signed
and stamped by the Registrar along with the degree certificates ( CONVOCATION / PROVISIONAL )
signed and stamped by the registrar without which the candidates application wont be taken into
consideration.
Hence, if a candidate is in the final year and has applied to LONG ISLAND UNIVERSITY, then his/her
application wont be taken into consideration since he/she will send only 6 semesters transcripts and not 8
semesters transcripts & he/she wont be having the DEGREE CERTIFICATE.
— AS PER THE RULES, MUMBAI UNIVERSITY DOES NOT MAKE / ISSUE TRANSCRIPTS FOR ANY STUDENT IRRESPECTIVE OF ANY FIELD.
— Hence in such a situation, the candidate is supposed to make photocopies of the transcripts issued by the
College and give it for ATTESTATION to the University to the concerned authorities.
— LONG ISLAND UNIVERSITY also requires original university stamped mark sheets. and not attested
from the college attended.
— SOME OF THE US UNIVERSITIES WHICH REQUIRES ALL 8 SEMESTERS MARKSHEETS,
TRANSCIPTS & DEGREE CERTIFICATES ARE LONG ISLAND UNIVERSITY ETC. EVALUATION OF THE TRANSCRIPTS
— Every US university converts candidates percentage into GPA (Greater Point Average) using their own
grading system.
— Some Universities give the job of converting candidate’s percentage to GPA to EVALUATION
AGENCIES like WES (WORLD EDUCATION SERVICES), CED – CENTER OF EDUCATIONAL
DOUCMENTATION etc
—FOR EXAMPLE:
If a candidate has applied to Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (MCPHS), then
the candidate is suppose to send his/her mark sheets, transcripts and other application materials to
MCPHS and separately send his/her marks sheets and transcripts at the same to CENTER OF
EDUCATIONAL DOCUMENTATION (CED), since MCPHS requires an evaluated copy of the
transcripts from the CENTER OF EDUCATIONAL DOCUMENTATION which will convert the
candidate’s percentage from the transcripts/mark sheets to GPA and send it to MCPHS.
CED is the only evaluation service which MCPHS accepts.
—Without the evaluation of mark sheets / transcripts from CED, the candidates application at MCPHS wont
be forwarded from the International Graduate Admission to the Department to which he/she has applied.
—Some of the Universities which require evaluation of transcripts from evaluation agencies include –
LONG ISLAND UNIIVERSITY, UNIVERSITY OF OKHALOMA AT TULSA , MASSACHUSSETS COLLEGE OF PHARMACY AND HEALTH SCIENCES, UNIVERSITY
OF CALIFORNIA AT STOCKTON etc.
—Hence while applying to the US university, the candidate is expected to visit the websites of the
Respective universities and see the requirements of the university, failure to which can delay/affect their
Application / admission process.
